It may also stimulate glutamatergic receptors, which are used in thought and learning processes and may help potentiate either Aniracetam or Piracetam. Adrafinil was prescribed in France in 1986 as a treatment for narcolepsy due to its effects of wakefulness and alertness.

In one study Adrafinil was shown to improve the learning abilities of aged beagle dogs. The study was against a placebo, and the beagles administered Adrafinil demonstrated both lowered error counts. Oral administration of adrafinil improves discrimination learning in aged beagle dogs (Pharmacol Biochem Behav. 2000 Jun;66(2):301-5).

Adrafinil is a stimulatory drug that is used by late shift workers, or early morning workers to help improve alertness and increase the feeling of wakefulness. Adrafinil has also been shown to help increase overall motivation possibly due to its positive effects in regards to dopamine receptors.
